Please try Sweet Chariot next to Marry Brown at Lakhani Plaza. I used to see TD, Bhanupriya, Kushboo frequents there. Pineapple pastry is the best.

Of course, all the pastries at McRennett (near Greams Road & Lloyds Road) seems to be fine and yummy.

If you don't mind local stuff (low cost), I have had nice puffs, and strawberry cake in Lloyds road, opp Gee Gee Springs.

I dont like the pastries at Coffee Day, But yes cake walk is by far the best, not close to the Taj Cake shop though
I think the GRT one is also below par. But then all that is a matter of perception. Sweet Chariot is OK. Shall try Sweet chariot in Bangalore. As for the ones abroad, I shall wait for the right time :)

இன்ப்ளுஎன்ஸ் வைத்து சிலரை அரஸ்ட் செய்ய வைப்பது ( அதுவும் இரண்டு அரசாங்க ஊழியர்களாம்  - அதுவும் ஒருவர் திருப்பூரில் கலக்டரை நன்கு அறிந்தவர் ஆளும் கட்சியின் அதிகார பலம் உள்ளவர், மற்றவர் பெரிய அதிகார கும்பலை அறிந்து வைத்துள்ளவர்  - இணையம் மூலம் அறிந்தது  )   அநியாயம். அம்மா ஆட்சியில் எதுவும் நடக்கும்

நான் இந்த வேண்டுகோளை வைப்பதற்கும் எழுதுவதற்கும் காரணம், நானும் ஒரு ஒன்னரை வயது பெண் குழந்தையின் தகப்பன் என்பதால், ஒரு குழந்தையின் தேடலும் ஆசையும் விளையாட்டும் புன்சிரிப்பும் தவிப்பும் எப்படி இருக்கும் எதை நோக்கி இருக்கும் என்று அறிந்த ஒரு சக சகோதரனாய் தான் இந்த வேண்டுகோளை வைக்கிறேன். இந்த வேண்டுகோளை பரிசீலிக்கவும், நிராகரிக்கவும், பதில் அளிக்காமல் விடவும் உங்களுக்கு உரிமை உண்டு. ஆனால் உங்களின் பெருந்தன்மையால் அவர்களை மன்னித்தால், அது அவர்களை மட்டும் மன்னித்தது இன்றி, அவர்களின் குடும்பத்தையும் காப்பாற்றிய அழியா புகழ் உங்களை வந்து சேரும். இரண்டு நிமிடம் மட்டும் என் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு ஒதுக்கி, நல்ல முடிவை எடுங்கள். உங்களை போன்ற படித்தவர்களுக்கு நிச்சயமாய் தெரிந்திருக்கும் ' இன்னாசெய் தாரை ஒறுத்தல் அவர்நாண / நன்னயஞ் செய்து விடல்'

சரஸ்வதி பூஜை

சரஸ்வதி பூஜை என்பது ஒரு அர்த்தமற்ற பூஜை. கல்வியையும், தொழிலையும் ஒரு பெண் தெய்வமாக்கி அதற்கு சரஸ்வதி என்று பெயர் கொடுத்து அதை பூஜை செய்தால் கல்வி வரும் வித்தை வரும் என்றும் சொல்லி நம்மை பார்ப்பனர்கள் ஏமாற்றி கல்வி கற்க சொந்த முயற்சியில்லாமல் சாமியையே நம்பிக்கொண்டு இருக்கும்படி செய்துவிட்டு,நாம். அந்தசாமி பூஜையின் பேரால் கொடுக்கும் பணத்தைக் கொண்டே அவர்கள் படித்து பெரிய படிப்பாளிகளாகிக் கொண்டு நம்மை
படிப்பு வர முடியாத மக்குகள் என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்கள்.

முதலாவது சரஸ்வதி யெனும் சாமியின் சொந்த யோக்கியதையைக் கவனித்தால் அது பார்ப்பனர்களின் புராணக்கதைகளின் படியே மிக்க ஆபாசமானதாகும்.

சரஸ்வதி உற்பவக்கதை

அதாவது சரஸ்வதி என்கிற ஒரு பெண் பிரமனுடைய சரீரத்திலிருந்து உண்டாக்கப்பட்ட பிறகு, அவளுடைய அழகைக்கண்டு அந்த பிரமராலேயே மோகிக்கப்பட்டு அவளுடன் இன்பமனுபவிக்க அவளை அழைக்கையில் அவள் பிரமனை தகப்பன் என்று கருதி, அதற்கு உடன்படாமல் பெண் மான் உருவெடுத்து ஓடவும், பிரமன் தானும் ஒரு ஆண் மான் உருவெடுத்து அவளைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து ஓடவும், சிவன் வேடன் உருவெடுத்து ஆண் மானைக் கொல்லவும், பிறகு சரஸ்வதி அழுது சிவபிரானால் மறுபடியும் உயிர்ப்பிக்கச் செய்து பிரமனுக்கு மனைவியாக சம்மதித்ததாகவும் சரஸ்வதி உற்பவக்கதை சொல்கிறது.

அதாவது பெற்றெடுத்த தன் தகப்பனையே மணந்து கொண்டவள் என்று ஆகிறது. தங்கள் கையில் இருக்கும் பணத்திலும் ஒரு பாகத்தை செலவு செய்து, போதாவிட்டால் கடன் வாங்கியும் செலவு செய்வதைவிட இதனால் யாதொரு நன்மையும் ஏற்படுவதாகச் சொல்வதற்கே இல்லாமல் இருக்கின்றது.

ஆயுதத்தை வைத்து பூசை செய்து வந்த, நம் நாட்டு அரசர்கள் கதி என்னவாயிற்று? ஆயுதத்தை வைத்து பூசை செய்தேயறியாத வெள்ளையன் துப்பாக்கி முனை கண்டிடவில்லையா?

சரஸ்வதி பூஜை செய்யும் வியாபாரிகளில் ஒரு வியாபாரியாவது சரஸ்வதிக்குப் பயந்து பொய் கணக்கு எழுதாமலோ, தப்புநிறை நிறுக்காமலோ, குறைஅளவு அளக்காமலோ இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று சொல்ல முடியுமா? அதுபோலவே, கைத் தொழிலாளிகளும் தங்கள் ஆயுதங்களிடத்தில் வெகுபக்தியாய் அவைகளை சந்தனம், குங்குமம், பொட்டு வைத்து போட்டுவிழுந்து கும்பிடுவார்களே தவிர ஒருவராவது நாணயமாய் நடந்து கொள்கின்றார்கள் என்றாவது அல்லது அவர்களுக்கு தாராளமாக தொழில் கிடைக்கின்றது என்றாவது சொல்வதற்கு இல்லாமலே இருக்கின்றார்கள்.

அதுபோலவே, புத்தகங்களையும், பென்சிலையும் கிழிந்த காகிதக் குப்பைகளையும் வைத்து சந்தனப் பொட்டு இட்டு பூசை செய்கிறார்களே அல்லாமல், காலோ கையோ பட்டுவிட்டால் தொட்டு கண்ணில் ஒத்திக் கும்பிடுகின்றார்களேயல்லாமல், நமது நாட்டில் படித்த மக்கள் 100க்கு 5 பேர்களுக்குள்ளாகவே இருந்து வருகின்றார்கள். இவ்வளவு ஆயுத பூசை செய்தும், சரஸ்வதி பூசை செய்தும், இவ்வளவு விரதங்கள் இருந்தும் நமது அரசர்கள் கதி என்னவாயிற்று? நமது வியாபாரிகள் நிலை என்ன? எவ்வளவு பேர் நஷ்டமடைந்து வருகிறார்கள். நமது தொழிலாளர்கள் தொழில் இல்லாமல் பிழைப்புக்காக வேறு நாட்டிற்குக் குடிபோகின்றார்கள்?

அது நிற்க, வருடா வருடம் சரஸ்வதி பூசை செய்துவரும் நம் நாட்டில், நம் மக்களில் 5 பேர்களே படித்திருக்கிறார்கள். அதிலும், சரஸ்வதியின் இனத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பெண்களில் ஆயிரத்திற்கு ஒன்பது பேரே படித்திருக்கிறார்கள். இதன் காரணமென்ன?

நாம் செய்யும் பூசைகளை சரஸ்வதி தெய்வம் அங்கீகரிக்கவில்லையா? அல்லது சரஸ்வதி தெய்வத்திற்கும் பிரமனால் உண்டாக்கப்பட்ட பிறகு அவளுடைய அழகைக் கண்டு, அந்த பிரமராலேயே மோகிக்கப்பட்டு அவளுடன் இன்பமனுபவிக்க அவளை அழைக்கையில் அவள் பிரமனை தகப்பன் என்று கருதி, அதற்கு உடன்படாமல் பெண் மான் உரு வெடுத்து ஓடவும், பிரமன் தானும் ஒரு ஆண் மான் உருவெடுத்து அவளைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து ஓடவும் சிவன் வேடன் உருவெடுத்து ஆண்மானைக் கொல் லவும், பிறகு சரஸ்வதி அழுது சிவ பிரானால் மறுபடியும் உயிர்ப்பிக்கச் செய்து பிரமனுக்கு மனைவியாக சம்மதித்ததாகவும் சரஸ்வதி உற்ப வக்கதை பெற்றெடுத்த தன் தகப் பனையே மணந்து கொண்டவள் ஆகிறது.

மற்றொரு கதை சரஸ்வதியின் உற்பவத்தை குறித்து மற்றொரு கதையின்படி சரஸ்வதி பிரம்மாவுக்கு பேத்தி ஆகிறது அதாவது பிரம்மா ஒரு காலத்தில் ஊர்வசியின் மீது ஆசைப்பட்ட போது வெளியான இந்திரியத்தை ஒரு குடத்தில் விட்டு வைக்க, அக்குடத்திலிருந்து அகத்தியன் வெளியாக அவ்வகத்தியன் சரஸ்வ தியைப் பெற்றான் என்று சொல்லப் படுகிறது. இதனால் பிரம்மனுக்கு சரஸ் வதி மகன் வயிற்றுப் பேத்தி ஆகிறாள்.

எனவே, சரஸ்வதியின் பிறப்பும், வளர்ப்பும், நடவடிக்கையும் பார்ப்பன புராணப்படி மிக்க ஆபாசமும் ஒழுக்க ஈனமும் ஆனதாகும்.

நிற்க, இந்த யோக்கியதையுடைய அம்மாளை மக்கள் எதற்காக பூசை செய்கிறார்கள் என்பது இதைவிட மிகவும் வேடிக்கையான விஷயமாகும். அதாவது சரஸ்வதி வித்தைக்கு அதிபதியான தெய்வமாதலால் வித்தையின் பயன் தொழிலென்றும், தொழிலுக்கு ஆதாரமானது ஆயுதங்கள் என்றும் கருதிக்கொண்டு சரஸ்வதி பூசை என்றும் ஆயுத பூசை என்றும் ஒரு நாளைக் குறித்துவைத்துக் கொண்டு அந்த நாளை விடுமுறையாக்கி வைத்துப் பூசை செய்கிறார்கள்.

இந்தப் பூசையில் அரசன் தனது ஆயுதங்களையும் வியாபாரி தனது கணக்குப் புத்தகங்கள் தராசு, படிக்கல், மரக்கால், படி, உழக்கு, பெட்டி முதலியவைகளையும், தொழிலாளர்கள் தங்கள் தொழில் ஆயுதங்களையும் இயந்திர சாலைக்காரர்கள் இயந்திரங்களையும், மாணாக்கர் புத்தகங்களையும், குழந்தைகள் பொம்மைகளையும், தாசிகள் தங்கள் ரவிக்கைகள் சேலை களையும், வாத்தியக்காரர்கள் தங்கள் வாத்தியக் கருவிகளையும் மற்றும் இதுபோல் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் தங்கள் இலட்சியத்துக்குப் பிழைப்புக்கு ஆதாரமாக வைத்திருக்கும் சாமான்களை வைத்து பூசை செய்கிறார்கள்.

இதனால் அந்த தினத்தில் தொழில் நின்று அதனால் வரும் வரும்படிகளும் போய், பூஜை, ஓய்வு முதலிய ஆடம் பரங்களுக்காக விரதங்கள் இருந்தும் நமது அரசர்கள் கதி என்னவாயிற்று? நமது வியாபாரிகள் நிலை என்ன? எவ்வளவு பேர் நஷ்டமடைந்து வருகிறார்கள்! நமது தொழிலாளர்கள் தொழில் இல்லாமல் பிழைப்புக்காக வேறு நாட்டிற்கு குடிபோகின்றார்கள்? நாம் செய்யும் பூஜைகளை சரஸ்வதி தெய்வம் அங்கீகரிக்க வில்லையா? அல்லது சரஸ்வதி தெய்வத்திற்கும் இந்த விசயங்களுக்கும் ஒன்றும் சம்பந்தமில்லையா? அல்லது சரஸ்வதி என் கின்ற ஒரு தெய்வமே பொய்க் கற்பனையா? என்பவைகளாகிய இம் மூன்றில் ஒரு காரணமாகத்தான் இருக்க வேண்டும்.

என்னைப் பொறுத்த மட்டில் இவை சுத்த முட்டாள்தனமான கொள்கை என்பதே எனது அபிப்பிராயம். வெள்ளைக்கார தேசத்தில் சரஸ்வதி என்கின்ற பேச்சோ கல்வி தெய்வம் என்கிற எண்ணமோ அறவே இல்லை.

அன்றியும் நாம் காகிதத்தையும் எழுத்தையும் சரஸ்வதியாய் கருதி தொட்டு, கண்ணில் ஒத்திக் கொண்டும் வருகிறோம். நமக்கு கல்வி இல்லை ஆனால் வெள்ளைக்காரன் மல உபாதைக்குப் போனால் சரஸ்வதியைக் கொண்டே மலம் துடைத்தும் அவர்களில் நூற்றுக்கு நூறு ஆண் பெண் கள் படித்திருக்கிறார்கள். உண்மையில் சரஸ்வதி என்ற ஒரு தெய்வமிருக்கு மானால் பூசை செய்பவர்களை தற்குறிகளாகவும் தன்னைக் கொண்டு மலம் துடைப்பவர்களை அபார சக்திவாய்ந்த அறிவாளிகளாகவும் கல்விமான்களாகவும் செய்யுமா என்பதை யோசித்துப்பாருங்கள்.

யுத்த ஆயுதம் கைத்தொழில் ஆயுதம் வியாபார ஆயுதம் ஆகியவை உண்மையிலேயே சரஸ்வதி என்னும் தெய்வ அம்சமாயிருக்குமானால், அதை பூசை செய்யும் நாடு அடிமைப்பட்டும், தொழிலற்றும் வியாபாரமற்றும், கஷ்டப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கவும், சரஸ்வதியை கனவிலும் கருதாதும் சரஸ்வதி பூசை செய்கிறவர்களைப் பார்த்து முட்டாள்கள், அறிவிலிகள், காட்டு மிராண்டிகள் என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் நாடு சுதந்தரத்துடனும், தொழிலாளர் ஆதிக்கத்துடனும் இருக்க முடியுமா என்பதையும் யோசித்துப்பாருங்கள்.

இந்த பூசையின் மூலம் நமது முட் டாள் தனம் எவ்வளவு வெளியா கின்றது பாருங்கள்.

இவை எல்லாம் யார் வீட்டுப் பணமா? நாட்டின் செல்வமல்லவா? ஒரு வருடத்தில் இந்த ஒரு பூஜையில் இந்த நாட்டில் செலவாகும் பணமும் நேரமும் எத்தனை கோடி ரூபாய் பெறுமானது என்று கணக்கு பார்த்தால் மற்ற பண்டிகை, உற்சவ புராணிய அர்த்தமற்ற சடங்கு என்பவைகளின் மூலம் செலவாகும் தொகை சுலபத்தில் விளங்கிவிடும். இதை எந்தப் பொரு ளாதார இந்திய தேசீய நிபுணரும் கணக்குப்பார்த்ததே இல்லை.

It all started like this.
Chinmayi refused to entertain disparaging, abusive comments and jokes about politicians on her timeline and asked them to keep away. This led people to think she has political affiliations.

Then, in the meanwhile there was a boy who casually complained about how reservation was affecting his higher education. He was a boy with a good mark-sheet, a weak bank balance and a forward caste tag.

Now came the first onslaught. The group that has been trolling Chinmayi for over a year now had a lively conversation of atmost perversion. ‘Karuthu SolraLamo? Modalla indha pappara’ ……’ roadla izhuthupottu rape pannonum’. Next one to give his valuable idea: adhoda ille indha pappara nayingala sangu sanga aruthu eriyanum thala ’ Even before this could subside the next was unleashed.

It was a pressure on Chinmayi to RT and support a hashtag on the TN Fishermen Issue, which had a lot of unnecessary, unrelated comments that had nothing to do with the issue as such but people kept tweeting utter nonsense to keep the topic trending. She refused to bow down to the pressure of a hashtag which contained abuse and vulgarity in the name of voicing out for a cause.
It was twisted and a story was circulated. ‘Chinmayi says meenai konnu thinnara meenavaaLaiyellam konna paavameilla’, Some brilliant fellow responded saying, ‘ avaaLLam adonno. Adhan romba Madi’ etc. etc.

They were crossing boundaries and we blocked a lot of them. (Actually I entered the picture at this time and I blocked every trouble monger or whom I thought was a suspected trouble monger at that time, as we wanted peace).
All these blocked IDs, formed a group and started a new trouble of starting a propaganda that Chinmayi is anti tamil tweeters. A hashtag began saying “chinmayi hates us”

YES we are against who tweet in an abysmal and vulgar language USING THE SAME SCRIPT AS WE TAMILIANS USE FOR WRITING TAMIZH.

In the meanwhile from time to time Adangudi mariyadhaya, Mariyadhaiya kappam kattudi naye, pombalai nee karuthu sollara velaiyellam vachukkadhadi’ ……..’ etc. etc. were pouring from time to time. So this small group found this was their new time pass. Mr.Rajan, please note: Many of those NAVANARADARS are with locked ids.

The group was itching for fresh trouble, their proddings gave them results and their boss tweeted, ‘indha varushathukku mandagappadi arambikkalama?’.

After Chinmayi expressing her dissent on Mahesh Murthy’s article in the Hindustan times, a fresh bout of trolling started.

While there was a Perani @ Marina on 18th what was Mr. Rajan doing? I’ll measure my words because a girl is equally involved in this criticism, and I don’t want to make sweeping comments., (we don’t want to engage in slander against women). Whether it was in seriousness or for fun, romantic lines were being exchanged throughout the day and night and the following days. In their own language, Kadal pattam parandhadhu. Even if it is for fun, the gentleman or the lady, did not bother to even think about the Tamil Eelam that one evening on the 18th. (Irony!) Chinmayi and I were in Coimbatore for the award ceremony. Last year same time, under Mr.Madan karky’s call Chinmayi, Kodhai Kirti and me were there at Marina lighting a lamp.

On this pretext one from this group sends out a tweet asking for financial help to advertise! the march 18th Perani which according to this mahanubhavan would cost 80,000/ rupees! Sabbash! Oru tamil eezha makkala vachu yarellam panam collect pannaranga parunga and for what? Advertisement about 18th Perani! Give just 8,000/- from that money, I will show you honourable people who will reach that amount honestly to the real suffering tamils in Srilanka.

Now Mr.iPokkiri adviced Chinmayi with a long blog! Mr. iPokkiri, I read a post of your esteemed friend on Kalahasti . Wonderful! If this is a sample of his writing skills, we have nothing but to say sorry. Why would you not advice your friend what is good in his interest? YOU WILL NOT as MANY of you are using him because he probably says and tweets things that you don’t want to do/say directly along with his own. Since he is a dare devil he does not hesitate.

Atheist? One is entitled to. But one HAS to respect a huge majority who are god lovers and believers. The group has abusive comments about all Godmen.

Personally, we don’t believe in following Godmen. There is immense pressure on celebrities from the followers of godmen to become a part of their movement. When we learnt to resist, they approached our company for linguistic services. For this Chinmayi was asked to visit the concerned ashrams. I have summarily rejected such suggestions and made it clear to such people that for a professional assignment a visit to any ashram is not necessary. No ashram has abused us or pressurized us for that.

The latest from their fountain is a fake id, which was created (Chimnayi) with same Bio, photo and sending a tweet to a Swami to bless her, him responding without realizing that it is a fake handle. Good that almost immediately it was brought to our notice.

Well Mr.Rajan, what Mr.Pokkiri or others are failing to do to you, I have decided to do now, here. There is a proverb, Azha azha solluvargal than manidhargal, (pirar) sirikka sirikka solluvargal matravar.

You are young. You have a lot of vegam. Good. But,onga vazhi, varthaigal ellame dharmathukku purambanavai. Indha vegam sariyana paadhaikki thiruppina ungalukkum, naattukkum nalladhu. Fill your heart with compassion and respect for fellow human beings. I have the age to advice you.

May be a bad past or an incident or a series of incidents could be a reason for your spewing of fire on women and successful people. Please get out of this mode. It is worth filling your heart with compassion and respect for fellow human beings.

Even this so called group around you will vanish in thin blue air when you are in real trouble. Your parents, your wife and your children alone will be the ones shedding tears and fighting against all odds to save you.

As a mother, my first impulse could have been to wish that God punishes you. But then, that will make me no different from you. At my age and experience and the foundations on which I have led my life or steered Chinmayi’s, I can’t be doing anything but writing what I am, right now.

Valmiki and so many others had a beginning to their lives which were not commendable. Today they have been embellished in the tenets of History, standing tall through eras, centuries and generations. Let me accept Mr. Pokkiri’s claim that you have a good writing skill. Let it not be abused to write articles like the one on Kalahasti or the abuse on women.

If you don’t believe in God, fine. Instead of abusing god, praise nature or anything beautiful. If you want to comment on politics, public figures, do so within acceptable norms. If Chinmayi or I would not like to be a part of your views, we are entitled to have ours. We will not keep quiet at the face of abuse or trolling.

You seem to be quite young. And you have a long journey ahead. Your child will learn from your life, lived by you as an example.

Think for and by yourself. Many of your followers don’t even have their own photographs and names and can conveniently vanish if need be. You have an open identity and that makes me spend this time to write to you.

I pray my Devi to show you the right path and vision and personally bless you for a turn of righteous life.

It is time that we raise our voice against such Government action to loot the temples, and fill their coffers. Will such a protest be termed communal? your guess is as good as mine. Is this important enough for Subramaniam Swamy to take up and file a PIL in the Supreme Court? The on-going loot of Hindu temples By MV Kamath It is time some one asked the Government to lay down all the facts on the table so that the public would know what is happening behind its back. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is not secularism. And temples are not for looting, under any name. One thought that Mohammad of Ghazni has long been dead. WHILE Congress leaders are hell-bent on damning the RSS – it is an old game that has long ceased to have any meaning – they seem to be unaware (or deliberately wish to ignore) that as late as on July 4, 2010 the right hand of a 53-year old Christian college professor (one TJ Joseph) was chopped off by Muslim fundamentalists, at Thodapurzha, Iduki district, in Kerala, for alleged blasphemy. Digvijay Singh probably doesn’t want to be reminded of this. Nor, one suspects, would he be anxious to know that police found out that this heinous crime was committed as part of the implementation of the verdict of a Shariah court run by fundamentalist elements in Kerala. The police apparently discovered that 14 such parallel courts have been running in Kerala for the last twenty years and Kerala State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has been reported as confessing that since 1993, twenty two murders have taken place under the direction of the Shariah courts in Kerala (vide, Mangalam Daily Kottayam, July 21, 2010). Digvijay Singh can check this bit of information as could Rahul Gandhi. At the same time, they could both check out on the performance of The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Act of 1951 which allows State Governments and politicians to take over thousands of Hindu Temples and maintain complete control over them and their properties. It is claimed that they can sell the temple assets and properties and use the money in any way they choose. A charge has been made not by any Temple authority, but by a foreign writer, Stephen Knapp in a book (Crimes Against India and the Need to Protect Ancient Vedic Tradition) published in the United States that makes shocking reading. Hundreds of temples in centuries past have been built in India by devout rulers and the donations given to them by devotees have been used for the benefit of the people. If, presently, money collected has ever been misused (and that word needs to be defined), it is for the devotees to protest and not for any government to interfere. This letter is what has been happening currently under an intrusive law. It would seem, for instance, that under a Temple Empowerment Act, about 43,000 temples in Andhra Pradesh have come under government control and only 18 per cent of the revenue of these temples have been returned for temple purposes, the remaining 82 per cent being used for purposes unstated. Apparently even the world famous Tirumala Tirupati Temple has not been spared. According to Knapp, the temple collects over Rs 3,100 crores every year “and the State Government has not denied the charge that as much as 85 per cent of this is transferred to the State Exchequer, much of which goes to causes that are not connected with the Hindu community”. Was it for that reason that devotees make their offering to the temples? Another charge that has been made is that the Andhra Government has also allowed the demolition of at least ten temples for the construction of a golf course. “Imagine the outcry” writes Knapp, “if ten mosques had been demolished”. It would seem that in Karanataka, Rs. 79 crores were collected from about two lakh temples and from that, temples received Rs seven crores for their maintenance, Muslim Madrassahs and Haj subsidy were given Rs 59 crore and churches about Rs 13 crore. Very generous of the government. Because of this, Knapp writes, “25 per cent of the two lakh temples or about 50,000 temples in Karnataka will be closed down for lack of resources”, and he adds: “The only way the government can continue to do this is because people have not stood up enough to stop it”. Knapp then refers to Kerala where, he says, “funds from the Guruvayur Temple are diverted to other government projects denying improvement to 45 Hindu temples”. Land belonging to the Ayyappa Temple, apparently has been grabbed and “Church encroaches are occupying huge areas of forest land, running into thousands of acres, near Sabarimala”. A charge is made that the Communist state government of Kerala…. wants to pass an Ordinance to disband the Travancore & Cochin Autonomous Devaswom Boards (TCDBs) and take over their limited independent authority of 1,800 Hindu temples. If what the author says is true, even the Maharashtra Government wants to take over some 450,000 temples in the state which would “supply a huge amount of revenue to correct the state’s bankrupt conditions….” And to top it all, Knapp says that in Orissa, the state government intends to sell over 70,000 acres of endowment lands from the Jagannath Temple, the proceeds of which would solve a huge financial crunch brought about by its own mismanagement of temple assets. Says Knapp: “Why such occurrences are so often not known is that the Indian media, especially the English television and press, are often anti-Hindu in their approach, and thus not inclined to give much coverage, and certainly no sympathy, for anything that may affect the Hindu community. Therefore, such government actions that play against the Hindu community go on without much or any attention attracted to them”. Knapp obviously is on record. If the facts produced by him are incorrect, it is up to the government to say so. It is quite possible that some individuals might have set up temples to deal with lucrative earnings. But that, surely, is none of the government’s business? Instead of taking over all earnings, the government surely can appoint local committees to look into temple affairs so that the amount discovered is fairly used for the public good? Says Knapp: “Nowhere in the free, democratic world are the religious institutions managed, maligned and controlled by the government, thus denying the religious freedom of the people of the country. But it is happening in India. Government officials have taken control of Hindu temples because they smell money in them, they recognise the indifference of Hindus, they are aware of the unlimited patience and tolerance of Hindus, they also know that it is not in the blood of Hindus to go to the streets to demonstrate, destroy property, threaten, loot, harm and kill… Many Hindus are sitting and watching the demise of their culture. They need to express their views loud and clear….” Knapp obviously does not know that should they do so, they would be damned as communalists. But it is time some one asked the Government to lay down all the facts on the table so that the public would know what is happening behind its back. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is not secularism. And temples are not for looting, under any name. One thought that Mohammad of Ghazni has long been dead.

Dear Hindu Friends,

I totally agree that our Government is diverting temple funds to general revenues and using them not only for project unconnected with Hindu religion but also give to Madrasah and Christian Institutions. Not even Muslim kings, who ruled us for eight hundred years, dare to do such a dastardly act. Such is the Adharma of our Government in the name of secularism. I would not blame UPA. When the BJP were in power, they also did not do anything to stop such Adharmas. In fact, they are competing with UPA in creating a public image that they are more secular than UPA.

What we can do is to organize ourselves better. But we are not good in organization, as in the case of Christians and Muslims. It is equally true that there is misuse of power and position. But that does not justify the Government. In fact, I had occasionally represented the top most authority in India about our unhappiness that Hindu temples are being taken over by the Government. The cynical reply was that we have taken over the temples only at the request of Hindus connected to the temples who complained to us that there is misuse. It is noteworthy that there is a lot of misuse of funds, even in the Sai Trust. Whether it is true or not, Hindus have a tendency to criticize each other based on caste and personal prejudices. Shri Narayana Guru Ashram in Kerala had internal dissension and even violence which made the Government to intervene. Not a single Christian or Muslim openly criticizes their religion, but Hindus take a pride in ridiculing and criticizing Hindu practice, customs, and traditions. They do this to demonstrate their modernity and liberalization from orthodoxy. Eighty million go to temples and over thousand ashrams teach ethics, either through Upanishads or Ithihasas and Puranas. Twenty TV channels are telecasting Hindu themes and yet we are reported to be one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

I had occasions to address over two lakhs student and faculty during the last three years. Every week, I give one or two talks in colleges. I used to ask the students whether they have read one book on Hinduism, Indian culture, Indian civilization or Indian history. Not even one out of hundred has raised their hands. This is the pitiable situation.

But everything has not lost. Things will improve, may be in hundred years; thanks to the efforts by vested scholars like Knapp, David Corey and others. Indians will realize that they are doing a great injustice to their religion.

The only segment of society which can change this situation is the business and industrial community who have the financial and organizational resources to fund institutions, which will protect Hinduism. It is in their interest that India remains as one country and that too under democratic system. They have managerial resource to implement ethics and unity. But they have not taken interest so far, except giving some money or gold to temples, presumably hoping that God will return part of it for their own growth and happiness. I was the first to participate and give the keynote address for the Kerala Brahman Association, first in Palakkad and later on in Kozhikkode. This was 30 years ago, but they have not invited me once even when I asked them to give me a chance to speak in Trichur. The secretary refused that they have no time. I am one among Brahmins in Kerala to be awarded Padma Bhushan and National Professorship. They did not care even to report it in their magazine, which shows their inefficiency and indifference.

In spite of being a 10,000 year old civilization, we are not united. Now, we have managerial competence. Therefore, Hindus have to suffer for a long time for now until a leader comes to take us forward. Fortunately, Swami Vivekananda had predicted that the 21^st century is India Century and that the whole world will come to India to pay tributes to our sages and saints. As I am too old, I will not be there when that beautiful day comes, when we will be open up from our lethargy to help our religion.
